Baerbel Jennert Foundation has launched a five-year program that will see 30,000 poor adolescent girls in rural schools in Kisumu and Siaya counties have free access to sanitary towels and menstrual hygiene education. Baerbel Jennert Foundation CEO Gaby Amolo says the five-year program has rolled out campaign to mobilize one million well-wishers to commit a dollar a month for the next five years. Adding that one dollar can help keep two girls in school without menstrual interruptions.

Menstruation is not just a health problem in Kenya but a national catastrophe facing girls from low income households like Kenya. The program is based on 4 Sustainable Development Goals e.g. Goal 1No poverty, Goal 3Good Health and Well being,Goal,4 Quality Education and Goal 6 Clean Water and Sanitation.

Over One Million Girls in Kenya miss school 5 to 6 days every month during their menstruation because they are too poor to afford sanitary towel. Put in context a girls who is absent from school from school due to their periods for five days per month loses 15 learning days which is equal to 2 weeks of learning in every school term

BJF supports these girls from poor households with annual packs of sanitary towels provided to them through their schools to reduce absenteeism from school leading to negative education outcomes

The program wishes well wisher to contribute just one dollar and keep two girls from poor families in school.
